Royal Leamington Spa Bowling Club is a private club, operating on public greens leased from Warwick District Council. The clubhouse building is also leased but is fitted and furnished by the club, who have sole responsibility for, and ownership of it during the period of the lease. The clubhouse has just had a major refurbishment and has excellent bar and kitchen facilities enabling social events throughout the year.

Our club welcomes players of all ages from primary school age to centenarian, from all ethnic and cultural backgrounds, and players of all bowling abilities. It's a great sport for all the family and a good place to meet people and make new friends.

Lawn Bowls can be played by people who have a physical or visual disability, also by those with learning difficulties - in fact by almost anybody!

We have a number of qualified coaches and coaching is free for those new to the game and also to those who join as members as they move forward and develop their skills.

To ensure that young and vulnerable players are protected the club operates a Safeguarding Policy, which is displayed in the clubhouse.

Men and Women are equal members of the club, paying the same subscription and having equal voting rights.

The day to day running of the club is in the hands of a Management Committee, elected annually at the club AGM, and all sub-committees report to them.

Members normally have the use of at least 9 rinks per day between the hours of 10:00 and sunset. Due to the use of the public greens by other outside bodies, there may be some occasions when this is not possible, but this is not very often and members are advised in advance.

Men’s friendly matches are played mostly on Saturday afternoons, with the occasional evening game. Ladies’ matches are played mid-week, either afternoon or evening, plus a few games on Saturday afternoons. Mixed matches are also played. During the week the club plays in the Pickering Triples League (Men) and the Stratford Herald League (Ladies). There is a Club Night with team competitions on Tuesday evenings throughout the season. All members are asked to make themselves available to play in at least 4 friendly matches per season. During the winter the club plays Short Mat bowls in the clubhouse and have teams that play in the South Warwickshire Short Mat League. Members also take part in club, County, District and National competitions both as individuals and in club representative teams.

The club is fully self-supporting and relies for a lot of its’ income on the catering and bar facilities it provides for outside events. To this end, all members are expected to contribute by helping at these events, or in some other way, if that is not possible.

The outdoor Playing Membership for 2024 is £75 for the year and for Social Membership is £10 but these costs can be reduced by rebates earned for working in the bar or kitchen during outside events.

(For just £5 extra to both types of membership you can play Short Mat Bowls in the clubhouse throughout the winter.)

For Junior members under 18 and those under 21 and in full time education it is free.

For new members joining in 2024 who have previously been members elsewhere there is a reduced first season rate for the outdoor season of £50.  For those who are new bowlers this is further reduced to £35. (In both cases for just £5 extra you can play Short Mat Bowls in the clubhouse throughout the winter.)

If you have never bowled before our qualified coaches can help you to learn to play this wonderful sport. If you would like to give it a try before joining just give us a call to arrange a free taster session.
